The Look Back Now is a power-pop quartet from Toronto, Ontario. The band is comprised of Michael Callahan (guitar and vocals), Elliott Gallagher-Doucette (guitar and vocals), Michael Murad (drums) and Ezra Sherman (bass and vocals). After forming in early 2016, they embarked on a studio effort at Royal Mountain Studios with producer Nixon Boyd, of the Juno-nominated group, Hollerado. Released on July 16th 2017, The Look Back Now’s debut EP, "DWEEB," pairs their boisterous rock sound with Elliott Gallagher-Doucette’s story-telling lyrics.
Elliott claims that “Music provides a lens through which people see moments in time. One of my first memories is being in my living room with my mother dancing to ‘Born in the USA.’ I think that that is something that will stick with me for the rest of my life. For me, that’s what is valuable about music. It truly has the ability to capture moments in time for us, and bring us back to those moments seamlessly.” Through these musical dimensions, they have drawn comparisons to Canadian power-pop forerunners the Joel Plaskett Emergency, also taking influence from bands like Sloan and Weezer.
To support the release of their debut EP, the band made appearances across Southern Ontario, including at Riverfest Elora where they shared the stage with such bands as MGMT, Mother Mother, Monster Truck and Gogol Bordello.
To cap off their breakout-year, The Look Back Now released their debut music video for the single, "Underneath These Eyes," alongside a sold-out appearance celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, ON. The band will be headed back to the studio in 2018 to record their sophomore EP, and will be hitting the pavement in March with appearances planned around Ontario and Quebec.
